Music - Shimmer, by Fuel (yes, again, because I like it THAT much)

If you've been keeping up with the comments for the past two entries, you'll probably know that I have no idea who this "--" is. So, anonymous commenter, I give up. I know you're at Rutgers, but that doesn't narrow it down much. Half of my high school went there. Here's my white flag. Tell me who you are.

Also, traveling down to Baltimore to see Paul will eventually get expensive. Then there's groceries every once in a while, but I'm pretty good about buying cheaply. Laundry too! Laundry costs $3. A dollar for two loads and another dollar for the dryer. Oh, and the cell phone bill. Man, there aren't enough dollars in the bank.

Music - Shimmer, by Fuel

Oof, I am so darn sleepy. Last night I slept very little, but it was all worth it. On Thursday night, I decided to visit Paul on a spur-of-the-moment impulse. So the next day, after having worked out the details with his family, I took a train to Maryland. I learned a thing or two about Amtrak trains. When you buy an unreserved ticket, it means you have the right to get on their trains. It does not mean you are entitled to a seat. In fact, so many people boarded the train that by the time it arrived at Penn Station, it was standing room only. Things didn't get any less crowded as the train traveled down south. So I ended up standing for the whole train ride. It wasn't that bad at all, but at the end I was glad to get away from the BO of other passengers.

As for the time with Paul, nothing could be better. The distance was getting to be quite unbearable.

How do you know that something is worth every bit of effort? Because you'll recognize that every hardship makes it just that much better. When circumstances force things upon you, and instead of being bitter, you feel grateful for how it improves what you have, that's how you know that it's worth all the waiting.

New layout. I think this whole format is getting old.

I finally got a job! Every weekend I'll be at Chelsea Piers picking up people who fall and doing skate rentals. Hurrah! The people there are kinda crude, but funny and still nice. It's really nice to be on the ice again even if I"m not really doing much of anything. The little kids there are fun to work with. A lot of small girls go skating there every week, so you get to know them by name. They like to follow you around the ice and ask questions. So cute!

Music - Tomorrow, by SR-71

Friday Five

  1. Is the name you have now the same name on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
The name on my birth certificate is my Chinese name since I was born in Hong Kong. It says "Cheukching." It's still on all my official documents and I am registered to NYU as Cheukching, but everybody calls me Cherry now.

  2.
  3. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?
    I'm okay with my name.

  4.
  5. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who named you?)
I was named Cheukching because my parents took me to a baby naming expert. People call me Cherry because when I was in kindergarten in HK, they were teaching us how to spell our English names and Cheukching was too difficult for me. My best friend at the time was named Cherry, so I decided that I wanted to be Cherry too. It just stuck =)

  6.
  7. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?
I really like the names Charlotte and Elizabeth. There's something elegant and slightly southern to them. I can't think of any names that I hate.

  8.
  9. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it?
    Well, here's what it says:
The name Cherry gives you a strongly independent and highly creative nature, with drive and ambition to have experiences and accomplish things out of the ordinary. You can work intently at whatever is new and holds your interest at the moment, but your interest wanes quickly when drudgery and monotony set in. Obstacles to your progress or restrictions on your freedom to act create a sense of frustration which may cause you to feel resentful and even rebellious. You can then become intolerant of others, and caustic and belittling in your expression, thereby imposing stress on your personal relationships. Although you have a clever, quick, capable mind, your progress in life is restricted by instability in your affairs and misunderstandings with people. Your impulsive nature can lead to actions which you later regret taking, or to accidents. Relaxation is elusive, and depletion due to nervous tension can develop to the point where you become subject to moods of depression and morbid thoughts.
It's fairly accurate. I'd agree that I enjoy independence, but I'm not particularly creative. The part about working intently at whatever is new is definitely true. I am fascinated by certain things, then get bored of them really quicky. I was often caustic and belittling to others, but I think I've changed some. I haven't been subject to any depressive or morbid thoughts for a good while. Maybe it's just cuz the school pressure hadn't really kicked in yet. O_o

  10.

So yesterday was September 11th. Aside from the anniversary of the national tragedy, it was also the...MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL! I had no mooncake =( I could have bought it down in Chinatown but I am quite broke after having purchased an audio recorder for Molec & Cell Bio. I think Daddy is actually bringing me some mooncake tonight. I certainly hope so!

I went walking around Chelsea today. I got out to 8th ave and found this nice store called Details. They sell such pretty glassware. They're on 8th and 19th, I think. Then further north, there's a place that's really expensive, but because everything there is extremely healthy. They have a yummy Mango Orange smoothie. A little bit up from there, there's a noodle shop. It's such a cute little shop! It looks like the ones they have in Chinatown, but so pretty and clean. Yum, that place is good.

Ton sourire m'amène la splendeur de la lune et la chaleur du soleil. Je t'aime toujours

Music - Written in the Stars, from Aida

Is it written in the stars?
Are we paying for some crime?
Is that all that we are good for
Just some stretch of mortal time?
Or some god's experiment
In which we have no say
In which we're given paradise
But only for a day?

And that has been the past 3 days. It was a temporary paradise. My sister came over to visit for a day, and we went to the anime fest. Oh man, it was good to see her again. My little pumpkin =). There wasn't as much free stuff this year as compared to last year, but it was nontheless fun to spend time with Pruney!

We saw a Korean anime called Doggy Poo. Gosh darn, that was the funniest half hour of the month! The story is about this piece of doggy poo on the ground and his life. The poo is really cute, and it cries at everything. In the end, it becomes a "melts" with a dandelion sprout and becomes a flower. The message of the story is that everything and everyone, even a piece of doggy poo, is created for a reason. If you get a chance to see it, do so. It's really funny.

I've had a lot of "firsts" this weekend. I'd never napped in Central Park before. I'd never stayed over in Times Square before ^_~. I'd never taught anybody to make plastic stars before. I'd never looked at someone just to count their pretty little freckles before. I hope there's time in the future set aside for more of these new and fascinating things.

--Tsunami is so very happy
