Music - A City Without You, by Andy Lau

Today was Parents' Day, but since I had to work all day, my family came into the city for dinner instead of staying the whole day. We went to Sui, a Japanese Restaurant down on Spring Street. It was pretty good, but also quite expensive. It had a very western atmosphere and dining style, along with all caucasian waiters. The food was pretty authentic though. It's a good place to take whities if it's their first experience with Japanese food.

Well, I'm sleepy after a long day of work. Sorry for the short entry. It's sleepytime.

Music - Honor To Us All, from Disney's Mulan soundtrack

Friday Five

  1. Name five things in your refrigerator.
There's miso paste (which is tomorrow night's dinner), kamaboko that I will slice up and cook one day, Mom's soup (which is tonight's dinner), preserved plums (last night's midnight snack), and grapes.

  2.
  3. Name five things in your freezer.
I have a tub of frozen curry that's half eaten, a tub of frozen tomato sauce, a bag of frozen meatballs, vegetables, and a bag of dumplings.

  4.
  5. Name five things under your kitchen sink.
There's cleaning fluid, a bottle of Comet, a garbage can, rubber gloves, and plastic bags

  6.
  7. Name five things around your computer.
Geez, there's so much around my computer, where do I start? Let's see...there's a lot of paper lying around. There are some dirty dishes. There are pictures of my sister (two of them). My phone is on the right hand side. Oh, and my voice recorder. Yup.

  8.
  9. Name five things in your medicine cabinet.
There's a first-aid kit (Sonja's), some medicine for gas/diarrhea (Sonja's), cough drops (also Sonja's), nail polish remover (dunno whose), and a sponge.

  10.

My work schedule changed and today was the my first time working on a Friday. Turns out, Sacred Heart Academy brings a group of small girls to Chelsea Piers for a group lesson every Friday. Most of the kids who come to the rink are very sweet. They ask you to help them and are always polite. However, once in a while you get kids who just don't know how to behave. For example, one of the girls from SHA was named Gabby, and she was nice. Her friend Emelia, on the other hand, was not so nice. She bit me twice, pinched me a few times, and pulled my hair. Ouch. She wasn't so nice. Oh well...she just reminds me why i don't want to have kids. I don't want to have one like them. >.<

Music - Any song from the Man of La Mancha soundtrack

New updated material! DorQue Humor

I have a big Molec & Cell exam tomorrow. I feel like I'm falling into my slacker high school habits again. Everyone that I've talked to has been studying a week, and I'm starting the day of the exam. I always felt the pressure in high school, but for some reason, pulled out okay anyway. I don't think that's going to work here. I have this empty feeling in my tummy like I'm way underprepared for this exam. It may be that I'm just hungry and there's no food in the fridge. I hope I'm just hungry.

I downloaded this medley of tunes from Man of La Mancha done by the Chicago Cavaliers Marching Band. Their music is really good, and I can hear the drum major shouting between all the songs. It brings back all these odd memories from marching band, like the time a whole buncha flags fell apart during a performance. Or this one time that Mr. J embarrassed Lisa in front of the whole band by saying she was turning into Tanya. And this one time (I don't remember if it was a game or a competition) that it was really cold and a bunch of bandies gathered in the gym. (Oh right, it was a competition). There was a group of Asian guys there break dancing in the gym. Oh, and how Will would stay over at my house after school until it was time for band practice. Now that I look back on it, it was a good experience. Those are happy memories. Yup. There's no regret that I didn't join NYU marching band though. There'd be no point to that..."Woohoo, go Violets! Wuh...Violets??!!"

i commend you Sir Paul for doing such a great job making Cherry so happy ! =)
xing | Email | Homepage | 10.10.03 - 1:48 am | #

Hi ho there, Sir Paul! I want to apologize to you for not having been considerate of your feelings. Xing is right, and you DO do a great job of, um...all the things you're supposed to do, and then some. I know I already apologized to you in person, and in flowers, and now in public declaration, but I just felt like I wanted to proclaim it here. So please accept my sincerest apologies for hurting your feelings while in a drunken stupor, and my promise to be more fair to you in the future. (Thanks, Xing, for reminding me to write that.) Oh, and sorry to all of my other readers for this silly little digression. Please keep reading my blog. Pretty please?

Friday Five

  1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones?
I watch figure skating. I especially love to watch Alexei Yagudin because he's so stylish, and Philippe Candeloro because he's so charismatic.

  2.
  3. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes?
Hmm...Surya Bonaly is an amazing athlete. She's so powerful, although not particularly graceful. Michelle Kwan takes the crown on grace.

  4.
  5. Are there any sports you hate?
I used to have a thing against football, but after two years of being in the marching band color guard, I've come to at least sort of understand it. The sport I like to watch least is baseball. Yeah, yeah I know it's the great "American Pasttime" but it's just so boring. There is so little happening in such a long span of time. It's the exact opposite of jam-packed action.

  6.
  7. Have you ever been to a sports event?
There are hockey games at the rink where I work all the time. And I used to compete in figure skating. So I guess so, yeah.

  8.
  9. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play?
I skated for a few years. I didn't develop any special talents in it, so I gave up in high school. I'm really glad I did it though, cuz now I can get a job at the skating rink.

Music - Miracle, by Vertical Horizon

One of my roomies is lying in bed with her boyfriend. They're not doing anything but talking, but it reminds me of what I miss so much. I'm feeling wasted and since Paul has already gone to sleep, I am talking to Will. I haven't talked to him for a while. I also stole this from Eun's Xanga to pass the time.

  1. Are you male or female?
I'm somewhere in between, but my anatomy says I'm undoubtedly female.
  2. How do you look?
    5' 1" and your average-looking Chinese
  3. Describe your neighborhood.
I live on Union Square West. It's always alive at night with kids skateboarding on the steps and couples sitting on the park benches. I love it here but tonight it just makes me cranky.
  4. If you could say something to the person you like, what would it be?
Please don't let this be forever
  5. Where do you wish you were right now?
It's not where I am, it's who I'd be with.
  6. What would you say to your best friend?
I miss June. I'd tell her that. But in terms of non-family, I don't have any friends.
  7. Any words of wisdom?
Think with your head and not with your heart.
  8. What do you wish you were doing right now?
I wish I was one of the people sitting at Union Square without a care in the world. It would be so nice, oy
  9. What do you think of drugs and alcohol?
Don't think about it too much. Just do what you feel like doing.
  10. If you could say one thing to your enemy, what would it be?
    Shut up and die
  11. What do you usually do on Friday nights?
After I get back from work, I eat dinner and sleep the fuckin night away.
  12. Are you for world peace?
    No. Let the fights continue.
  13. What do you think about school?
Sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it.
  14. How do you feel right now?
Not so hot. I'm feelin the effects.
  15. Any closing words?
Don't ever ever engage in long distance relationships. They suck like nobody's shit. You never know how to deal with the distance or how to feel about anything.

Music - Nothing Better, by Postal Service

So apparently, the NYU meal plan isn't as flexible as I thought. You see, I have the "6 meals per week" plan. You'd think that it means you can go eat six meals, at any time, per week. Not so. There are time limits imposed upon the meals. I thought food was appropriate at all times of the day. Apparently, NYU dining services disagrees.

When the dining halls are closed from 8 PM to 7 AM, clearly you can't use meal plans then. That's obvious and not so evil. But what's really evil is that they decided the time from 3 PM to closing time is time allotted for dinner and dinner only. That means you can only eat once at a dining hall between 3 and 8. If you eat a late, light lunch at 3 then decide you want dinner at 7:30 again, well, you're screwed. You'd hafta pay with either Declining Dollars, Campus Cash, or cash, which costs an exorbitant $9.00 for the mediocre dining hall food. No way.

The reason why I'm irked by this is as follows. I usually have trouble finishing the meal plan, and since they don't rollover into the next week, they're just wasted. I only eat about 3 meals at a dining hall per week, and the rest of them just go poof. Being the Asian child that I am, I feel awful just letting them go to waste. What's the solution? Use them up.

When I found out that Faye's Cafe, another university dining hall, takes meal plans and lets you take food home with you (most dining halls don't let you take it with you), I was ecstatic. Since I'm the kind of person who will eat dinner at 6, then decide at 4 AM that pasta would be nice at the moment, Faye's Cafe was the perfect solution. I could, on my way to from class, pick up a container of pasta, bring it home and keep it in the fridge until I felt like eating it. This is exactly what I did today at 4:30 PM. After class, my roommate Sonja and I decided to eat dinner at University Hall. When we got there, it was approximately 6:30. That was when I sadly discovered this time limitation on meal plans. I ended up eating the pasta (it was cold by then) for dinner.

However, despite the bleak outlook on my meal plan status, all is not lost. Since I don't usually eat breakfast at dining halls, I can use that time slot to pick up food, thereby keeping my dinner time slot free. Although this means that my 4 AM cravings will be satisfied by bacon and eggs, I suppose food is food. Oh well.

--Tsunami, who will be hungry at 4 AM tonight

Music - Only Time, by Enya (just cuz my roomie is playing it right now)

Friday Five

  1. What vehicle do you drive?
I don't keep a car in the city since it's so expensive to maintain, but back when I lived in Livingston, I drove my mother's Toyota Camry.

  2.
  3. How long have you had it?
I never owned it, but it's about 5 years old right now.

  4.
  5. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
It purrs to me! When I talk to the Camry, it says "I love you!" or "Drive me!"

  6.
  7. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
I hate how only Mother's key can open the trunk. When I go grocery shopping, I can't just open the trunk with my key. I have to open the driver's side door and pull the latch. But that's not a problem with the car, it's just that I have the secondary key.

  8.
  9. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?

    Lexus SC 2004
