Music - Isn't Love Cruel, from the Tenchi Muyo! soundtrack

June and David just left. They came over to visit for a day. Know what lurve is? Lurve is a little pumpkin ^______^

Jerry just got hired at Chelsea Piers two weeks ago and I think he already quit. Yesterday he called in half an hour before he was supposed to be there and said he couldn't come. Jay, the supervisor, yelled at him for not calling earlier. Today Jerry didn't show up at all, no phone call or anything. It's too bad, cuz he was somebody who worked hard and didn't take shit from the managers. He was a nice change from the scummier ones who are usually there. It's sad that all the nice, hard-working people quit so soon. Shucks.

Finals are coming up in a few weeks and I am completely unprepared. There's research papers and tons of reading piling up. I know for sure that I will get an A in French, but as for my other classes, things aren't looking up. I have a B- in Biology. Even if I get an A on the final, my grade will only go up to a B. For ConWest, I have no idea what I have, but I'm sure it's awful. And for Art, the whole grade is based on this one research paper that I haven't started yet. I see stress and grey hairs in my crystal ball.

Almost everybody I know is going to be home for Thanksgiving. I, however, am obligated to work through the holidays. At least I get paid time and a half on Thanksgiving Day. Same with Christmas and New Year's. I hafta work, but at least there's extra money in it for me.

Music - anything on Watashi Wa's The Love Of Life

I'm on the Metro North train right now to New Haven. The whole mock trial team is here with me and we're going to Yale for the invitational there. There's going to be over 60 teams from all over the place. I'm already intimidated. Not that it will show, of course.

It's a good thing that I'm going on this trip today. I haven't been having the best of days lately and this is a great way to escape it for a few days. There are bunches of financial problems that have become exacerbated by the recent arrival of my phone bill. Then there's the price of the train ticket of the time that the mock trial team went to Brown for another invitational. I still need another of sneakers because the soles are falling off of the current pair. I'm planning on making my 6-meal-a-week meal plan stretch itself to the limit. I will be the most thrifty person ever!

The man who sat next to me when the train left NYC got off at the Stanford stop. He was drinking a beer and eating Fritos. He seemed like a nice person and he kept asking these questions about what we're doing on the train. When I told him about mock trial, he seemed to go off on a little rant about lawyers. Some things about how they're sleazebags, but that if he were ever in court, he'd want his lawyer to be the meanest SOB out there. He also thought that we were all in law school. Silly man. We're only undergrads. But for once, it's nice to have people think I'm older than I am. Most people guess that I am younger.

There was a sign at Grand Central station that advertised the newest "On Ice" production, and you'll never guess what it is...Monsters Inc. ON ICE. How neat is that? I wish I could go see it. It looks like it'd be very entertaining. Eh well, I don't have the money or time to go anyway. When I finally get all the money under control and find some time to do something leisurely, I'm going to go see the Blue Man Group. Their theater is right next to the NYU campus area, so it's not inconvenient at all. I'll take June with me because I know she'd think it's cool. Daddy will probably enjoy it too, if he finds the time to come. And I guess that means I'd also have to invite Mom. Mm, one day.

Music - Someday, by Nickelback (such an indulgence)

Jay isn't so bad. He's actually quite a nice guy. Sure, he's strict about being late, but I'm never late anyway. He allows us to eat in the back, so I'm happy. He used to work at Chelsea Piers with the maintenance crew and quit a while back. He's older than all the guards, but still a lot of fun.

I forgot to do the Friday Five last Friday, so here it is now.

  1. What food do you like that most people hate?
I asked my roommate to name a food that most people don't like, and she said, "Squid." I like squid. Especially when it's dried and seasoned.
  2. What food do you hate that most people love?
I asked Paul to name a food that most people like, and he said, "Chicken." I don't hate chicken, but I feel that white meat is distasteful. Like tofu, it takes the flavor of whatever seasoning you put on it. Unlike tofu, it has a stringy texture and is as dry the sand in a desert.
  3. What famous person, whom many people may find attractive, is most unappealing to you?
I'd hafta say Julia Roberts. When I look at her, I just see that there's something wrong with her face. The upper half is very plain, and the bottom half is less than spectacular. I feel like she has a very large mouth for such a small, delicately-shaped face. Nothing against her acting though.
  4. What famous person, whom many people may find unappealing, do you find attractive?
    I can't think of anybody...
  5. What popular trend baffles you?
Uggs, those boots. They're cute, I suppose, but the way people wear it is just so odd. They will wear it with tights and a miniskirt. The boots look like part of of some Inuit outfit, and they're wearing a MINSKIRT. How does that make sense at all? Also, those WWJD bracelets that people wore a while back. Let's say you're in a crisis. Well, what would Jesus do? He would tell a parable. Okay. Wonderful, but the crisis isn't solved. I know, I know, the idea is to think about the way Jesus lived his life and apply it to your own. But really, what he did is to let people perfume his feet, perform miracles, and tell parables. None of these are going to help you much, are they?

[x] Sing in the shower?: I try not to now that I have roomies.

There is so much to stress about. This Thursday, I have to hand in a paper for ConWest. On Friday there's the interval exam for Biology. There is also the stress of worrying about whether or not I have to go to Yale for Mock Trial. Despite how much I love competing, I AM just the alternate and I wish that Morgan, the girl I'm subbing for, comes back. I'm sure she would be a great witness too, and I have other things to do instead of studying for Mock Trial.

Speaking of Mock Trial, this past weekend the team went to Rhode Island for an invitational sponsored by Roger Williams and Brown. Out of the 25 teams there, NYU came in 10th, which isn't so good, but decent. To be honest, I was a little disappointed by how my own team members performed. The witnesses were all superb, but the attorneys' objections and attitudes on crosses were less than spectacular. I don't want to say anything though, because I don't feel like I'm in a position to criticize. We all know that I'm not an attorney, so even if I said something, I feel like they wouldn't take me seriously. Oh well. Next year.

Thank you, Paul! I was so deprived of TV since none of my roomies brought a TV, and Paul sent me his television. I now have more bubble wrap than a person can ever use in two lifetimes. Now I owe him one. A big one.

They hired a new skate guard at work this week. Well, they kind of hired two. Jerry, who has been a skate guard before but not at this rink, is friendly and smart. I like him already. Nice guy. The other person that they hired, Jay, isn't really a skate guard. While he does work in skate rental and spend some ice time like the rest of us, he also walks around from here to there, watching what we're doing, deciding when we go on break, and other such managerial duties. In other words, he's the babysitter. Neal (the boss) must be mad at us for something stupid that one of the guys did, like leave food in the back or walk away from a post without having someone covering them. Therefore, we now have a babysitter. I haven't met him yet, but I get the feeling that most of the other guards are resentful of it.
